Missed Coachella?

I'll spare you all my opinions about Coachella, that's all you have to really know, it was great if you were there as long as you weren't getting arrested by the undercover 5-0. If you missed Coachella, two dope festivals are coming up. Rock the Bells has been rockin' it for a while and the lineup they got this year is amazing, even for the hipster kids. The newcomer threw it down on New Years Eve with Justice & Peaches among others, and the Hard Summer Music Festival doesn't seem like it'll be any less.

I'm so excited about Coachella, that I haven't had time to post. The thing is, I dont know if I'm more excited about the festival, or staying at the Palm Mountain Resort & Spa, I mean check out their workout room above.

Madonna's "New" Venture

So word on the street is that Madonna's "hip-hop" album, Hard Candy is gonna drop at the end of April. I'm a big Madonna fan, ever since I was a kid (my aunt took me to see "Who's That Girl" twice) and it kinda irks me when people talk about Madonna's new album venturing into a new territory, hip-hop. With collaborations with Timbaland, Pharrell and Justin Timberlake, everyone's pegging this as her "hip-hop" album.

Who said any of those people are hip-hop anyway? Who is the hip-hop authority? I mean yes, they have urban influences obviously, but I fail to see those guys as hip-hop, and that is definitely not a diss, I love to shake it to Timbaland & Co.

But it's easy to forget, in the days of the Timberlakes and Timbalands, that on her first tour, in the year 1985, Madonna took the Beastie Boys on the road with her, who are universally accepted part of the hip-hop pioneers. One of my first memories of Madonna was her "Borderline" video, which included two elements of hip-hop, breaking and graffiti. And the album "Bedtime Stories," 'nuff said.

This is not a new venture for Madonna.

I've Been Away

Sorry for the distance, I've been sick for the past two weeks, just now getting over it. We're starting a new (every other) Friday night party going on in downtown El Aye, last Friday was the first day, I DJed (sick as a dog)... the party continues on 01/25. M.I.A. Paper Planes

When I first heard the M.I.A. album this summer, Paper Planes was my shit, I had to play it for everyone. And everyone was impressed by the Clash sample. Anyway, my roomie told me he seen a preview of it the other night on MTV, and that they fucked up the song, they took the gunshots out and changed the vocals up.

Sometimes I get disappointed when someone I dig comprimises their art, so I looked it up online and seen the video, along with the other things, they censored her hands as she made her gunshot gestures.

Today I was relieved to see that Maya herself is also upset about that video, so I posted the one above, with the original song... the one MTV doesn't want you to see.

IKE TURNER

Ike Turner passed away. Even though he was rarely looked at in a positve manner, he was part of the very first rock n' roll song ever to be recorded, "Rocket 88."

About a month ago, on the way to Turntable Lab, I was going down Fairfax and I seen a guy that looked like Ike Turner in the car next to me, my friend in the back seat said "it is Ike." I asked how she knew, "His plates say 'IKE TRNR' on them!"
